LoRaWAN, a promising technology
When we started working with IoT technology in 2014, a long-range data transmission technology, LoRa (Long Range), began to ring a bell.
It was a patented RF modulation technology copyrighted by Semtech that allows multiplexing many communications orthogonally.
The idea is to send small data messages over long distances (up to 20 KM in open spaces) in bands that do not need a license to operate (ISM band).
We took notice of their potential and in 2017 we launched the portal "lorawan.es", which explains what LoRa (level 2 of OSI) and LoRaWAN (level 3 of OSI) are.
LoRaWAN.es
It is a portal available in Spanish and English where the physical communication/modulation technology and the respective networks, LoRaWAN, are explained.
The site is divided into sections that follow a natural order for the introduction to technology.
In the time it takes the online site, we have seen what absolute ignorance about technology there is nowadays.
The most widespread doubt is about its scope and transmission speed.
The evolution of the technology itself has been exponential and today it is a benchmark for the development of many IoT projects.
Roadmap: The next lorawan.es
Given the great success that "lorawan.es" is getting, we have decided to increase efforts to add more content and functionality to the website.
We have started by creating a newsletter where the most updated information about LoRa/LoRaWAN, new products, new networks, tutorials, etc, will be sent.
We will also add a section on IoT devices that are integrated with LoRa. Not only we will deal with aspects such as price, availability, scope, requirements, etc., but also qualities such as energy consumption, environmental impact or safety will be reported.
Another important section will be the FAQ, where we will answer the main questions that we usually ask for the contact form.
We are open to add other sections that may be of interest to the industry.
